The China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CPMCM) is one of the China Postgraduate Innovation and Practice Competitions (CPIPC). It is jointly hosted by the Association of Chinese Graduate Education and Children and Youth Science Center of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), under the guidance of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education of China. CPMCM is an academic competition focused on applied research and practice in mathematical modeling, open to all enrolled postgraduate students. Since its inception in 2003, the competition has been held 20 times, with a total participation of over 430,000 students. In 2023 alone, more than 65,000 students registered. The 21st CPMCM, to be held in 2024, will be organized by Shandong University and include an International Track for the first time. We warmly invite outstanding postgraduate students from around the world to participate.

I. Eligibility and Participation Guidelines

1. Participants must be postgraduate students currently enrolled at a recognized foreign higher education institution, including Master’s and Doctoral students. A foreign institution refers to any university or college located outside the People’s Republic of China that is authorized to grant degrees or diplomas independently. Enrollment at a foreign institution means the student is registered and eligible for a degree or diploma.

2. The competition is only open to team entries. Each team must consist of 3 members (1 team leader and 2 team members), regardless of their fields of study or academic year, and teams can be formed across universities. Chinese nationals enrolled at foreign institutions are eligible to participate in the International Track, but each team can have no more than 2 Chinese nationals.

3. Chinese postgraduates who register for the International Track cannot register for the Domestic Track at the same time.

4. Teams must complete their registration before 5:00 PM (Beijing time) on September 17, 2024, by clicking the "Registration Link," which will be available on the competition’s official website from 0:00 AM (Beijing time) on September 1, 2024.

II. Timeline, Rules, and Submission Requirements

1. Starting from 8:00 AM (Beijing time) on September 20, 2024, team leaders can download the compressed files containing the International Track questions via the “Download & Upload Link” sent by email. The files can be decrypted and accessed using the password provided by the Link, starting from 8:00 AM (Beijing time) on September 21, 2024. Each team must select one problem to solve and write their paper in English following the “Standard Competition Paper Format.” The completed paper, along with any attachments, must be uploaded in PDF format through the “Download & Upload Link” by 12:00 PM, noon (Beijing time), on September 25, 2024.

2. During the competition, all teams must adhere to the competition rules and complete their work independently. Teams are strictly prohibited from discussing the competition questions with anyone outside the team.

3. Participants must adhere to scientific ethics and academic standards. All references must be properly cited. The Competition's Academic Committee will perform similarity checks on all submitted papers. Papers with a similarity rate exceeding a certain threshold (determined by the Academic Committee) will be classified as "Problematic Papers" and may be submitted for manual review. Any use of unoriginal programs must be cited; otherwise, it will be considered plagiarism and classified as a “Problematic Paper.” The organizing committee will take stringent measures against academic misconduct and may revoke any awards given to the participants involved, including the Participation Award.

Ⅲ. International Track Awards and Final Defense

1. Works submitted through the International Track will be reviewed separately from the Domestic Track. Awards include the First Prize (which may be left vacant), Second Prize, Third Prize, and Participation Award. The First Prize carries a monetary reward of 2,500 RMB per team.

2. Teams that win the First Prize in the International Track and are deemed to be qualified by the Academic Committee will be eligible for the “Mathematical Modeling Star” defense (either online or offline). They will compete against the top Domestic Track teams before the award ceremony.

3. The top three teams in the "Mathematical Modeling Star" defense will be awarded the titles of Champion, Second Place, and Third Place, with monetary rewards of 50,000 RMB, 40,000 RMB, and 30,000 RMB per team, respectively. All other teams participating in the defense will receive a "Mathematical Modeling Star" Nomination Award, with a monetary reward of 10,000 RMB per team.

Ⅳ. Results Announcement and Award Ceremony

1. The Organizing Committee will announce the competition results and publish the list of prospective awardees on the official website in mid to late November 2024.

2. The final defense for the "Mathematical Modeling Star" and the Award Ceremony will be held in early December 2024 at Shandong University in Jinan.
